Last year – 2011 the world at large marked International Year for People of African Descent..
Africans globally seemed to have suffered more trials in this year of global and international recognition.
As we engage 2012 the struggles seem insurmountable
Egypt, Libya, Nigeria. and the then SUDAN had their political and social turmoil.
Leaders were dispossed and assasinated, governments were removed after many years of power and a new Nation SOUTH SUDAN was born.
What does this augur for us?
Are the dreams of the earlier Pan Africanists any more realisable?
The author of this note cannot yet draw a conclusion.
We acknowledge that change and transformation must occur as part of the growth and development process and we hope that the interest of the masses of our people will be considered of paramount importance by all those claiming to be champions of the poor and dispossessed .
We pray that as we move towards the 10th Anniversary of Panaf Fest., that globally we shall consider our options and take and make the choices and decisions that would serve our best long term interests.
May this note help us all to reflect on consequences as results of our choices and actions.

EL OJO DEL CANARIO – Film tribute to JOSE MARTI

The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba on the occasion of the 159th anniversary of the birth of Jose Marti will be screening the film ” EL OJO DEL CANARIO” on Tuesday 31st. January ,2012 at the Auditorium Simon Bolivar , Venezuelan Center , 2nd Floor, 16Victoria Avenue , Port o f Spain.
Jose Marti is the National Hero of Cuba and was born January, 28, 1853.
Jose was among other things a literary giant of his times, a professor and a dedicated revolutionary philosopher.
Jose died in military action on May, 19, 1895.
The screening begins at 5.00 p.m.

In the midst of all this let us spare a thought and moment of our time to the spirit of Carnival in the islands of Trinbago.. ” Emancipated” Africans joined the European dominated Carnival and added their elements of sanctity , protest and hope of transformation of a society into the ” bacchanal “. A revolutionary step.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO CARNIVAL 2012

Republic Trinidad & Tobago have contributed significantly to world culture, peace , harmony and multiculturalism via Trinidad & Tobago styled Carnival.
Enslaved Africans utilised the social and political environments in which they found themselves and utilised the prevailing social norms to give expression to their concerns about social justice and political change and transformation of their societies from unjust to just.
After the Emancipation Proclamation, they even took these liberties even further.
As Africans became involved in the Carnival of the plantation society, they added elements of their traditional masquerade norms and paradigms and created new paradigms of social and spiritual expression utilising the available space .
As we prepare to celebrate Carnival2K12. ,may we take a moment to reflect on our contributions to world Carnival events.

Year 2011 was a year of triumph for EGBE ONISIN ELEDUMARE.As 2011 came to a close EGBE ONISIN ELEDUMARE HOSTED ODUN IJESU ati IWUDE OGUN. The celebrations were a big success.We continue plodding forward in/with victory.
Our next Ijuba is on SUNDAY 22ND. January,2012.
Call to ijuba is at 1.45 p.m. Ijuba begins at 2.00p.m.
All devotees, friends , well wishers , curious and interested persons are invited.
Please attire yourselves appropriately and come with a clean and pure heart and mind.
Victual items are welcomed.These consist of oti, obi abata, obi gbanja, efun, atare, iyerosun, osun, epo pupa, ogi ori, oyin,iyere,orogbo etc.
May we all prosper as we move forward together.
