At a presentation hosted by EMANCIPATION SUPPORT COMMITTEE at NALIS , Port of Spain, Republic Trinidad & Tobago, NANA KOBINA NKETSIA V ,Paramount Chief of Western Region ,Ghana delivered a stirring and informative address to a small but appreciative and responsive audience.
The event meant to demonstrate the existing bonds between Africa and it’s Diaspora was opened by a stand for silence to honour the lives of those Haitians that were lost during the recent catastrophe in HAITI.
Opening Prayer was made by Agba Pearl Eintou Springer of Emancipation Support Committee.
This was followedby an introduction by Agba Khafra Kambon Chairman of Emancipation Support Committee.
This was then followed by the principal presentation made by Nana Kobina NketsiaV of Western Region,Ghana.
The presentation acknowledged the role of Africans in the Diaspora to the Indepence stuggles of Nations on the African Continent,especially those contributions made byTrinbagonians. Acknowledgements were also made to Honourable Marcus Garvey of Jamaica and the impact of the U.N.I.A. on workers struggle in Ghana particulary among Railway workers.
Nana Kobina paid respects to the late Aldwin Roberts – Lord Kitchner,Malcom Nurse a.k.a. GeorgePadmore,Kwame Toure Dr. Eric Williams. for their contributions to National life and outlook in Ghana,particulary in the life and times of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah.
Nana also looked at issues of social definition,self reliance, the need for recognition of culture as an aspect of National development, psychological empowerment,and restoration of the Ancestors, among other issues that were presented.
The audience had an international flair with attendees representing Venezuela, Cuba,Ghana,Republic Trinidad and Tobago.
In attendance were also mebers of EGBE ONISIN ELEDUMARE,ILE ISOKAN and the Association of Ghanians resident in Republic Trinidad & Tobago.
Oloye Orawale Oranfe Ile -Ife and Oloye Ogunrinola Ile – Ife were also in attendance.
Questions were entertained from the floor.
The session was brought to a close with a vote of thanks by Sis. Zakiya Wadada, Head of Secretariat,Emancipation Support Committee.
