The Foreign Ministry of Cuba has released information indicating that the Office of the United Nations for Human Rights is monitoring closely the situation of the five Cuban Patriots who were deemed terrorists by U.S. Courts, convicted and are serving time in U.S. Prisons.
In a response to the document sent by the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations in Geneva, – His Excellency Mr. Rodolfo Reyes Rodriguez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary , on the case of Gerado Hernadez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez., Ms. Navanethem Pillay,, of South Africa, indicated the postion of the UNHCHR to remain committed to follow the situation of the ” Cuban Five ” in particular the situation of Rene Gonzalez who has been detained by U.S. Authorities after his release from U.S. Prisons for what the U.s. Authorities term ” supervised release” This detention and freedom of the movement of Rene Gonzalez continues despite the expressed desire of Comrade Rene Gonzalez to return to Cuba and his family.
Commissioner Pillay affirmed that she would continue to insist personally with U.S. Authorities,for the right of the wives of Rene Gonzalez and Gerado Hernandez to be allowed to visit their husbands.
