Unofficial election results of yesterday’s National Elections held in Republic Trinidad & Tobago has P.N.M. as the winners of the election with a 23 – 18 outcome in favour of the P.N.M.
The outcome of the elections was not those forecast by the “popular” political analysts and broadcasts that were particulary aired by some mass media outfits.
The election saw many citizens resorting to race loyalty as the several political entities and individuals sort to sway the support of the electorate in what was certainly a significant election. Republic Trinidad & Tobago gained flag Independence on August 31st. 1962 as was led by the P.N.M and Dr. Eric Williams. The failure of Dr. Eric Eustace Williams and the P.N.M to effectively dismantle the colonial structure and mechanism fuelled social unrest and discontent in the 1970’s that led to the 1970 Black Power Revolt/Uprising. The movement and consciousness generated at that time resulted in many of the gains that the African sector of the society made in response to the demands of the African population as INDIANS and AFRICANS UNITED FORCES THROUGH TRADE UNIONS AND NON GOVERNMENTAL/NON POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS AT VARIOUS LEVELS OF THE SOCIETY DEMANDING CHANGE.
The political landscape and scenarios have reflected a Nation forced together by colonial forces still trying to forge it’s identity and define itself politically and otherwise.
This most recent election saw Africans in our society consolodating to deal with what they perceived to be a threat to their equal access to State resources and opportunities by the Peoples Partnership an amalgam of forces that had united to topple the P.N.M at the 2010 General Elections.
The people have decided. This now places responsibility upon the Nation and ALL OF IT’S CITIZENS TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS OF PEACE,EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY, EQUALITY BEFORE THE LAW, AND JUSTICE AND FREEDOM FOR ALL.In so doing the numerically strong African and Indian populations MUST SHOW RESPECT AND GIVE CONSIDERATION TO THE RIGHTS OF THE FIRST NATIONS PEOPLES OF OUR LAND. OUR FIRST NATIONS PEOPLES MUST BE FORMALLY AND EFFECTIVELY INCORPORATED INTO THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS OF OUR LANDS. AFTER ALL THIS NATION AS PART OF CARICOM IS SEEKING REDRESS FOR THE INJUSTICES OF THE COLONIAL NATIONS THAT FORCEFULLY BROUGHT AFRICANS AND INDIANS TO OUR CURRENT DESTINIES IN THE CARIBBEAN.WE ARE TAKING THESE FORMER COLONIAL POWERS TO COURT TO REDRESS THE INJUSTICES OF THE PAST AND TO COMPENSATE AND REPAIR THE DESTRUCTION THAT THEY HAVE DONE TO OUR FOREPARENTS. LET US SET A GOOD EXAMPLE AT HOME.
So we await the official results of the Election. We thank the Cosmic powers for guiding us through the process relatively untoward incident free.
We place faith in OURSELVES and OUR ABILITIES TO CARRY THIS LAND FORWARD WHERE EVERY CREED AND RACE WILL HAVE AN EQUAL PLACE.
