The High Spate of Injustice Worldwide
Within the Ifa/Orisa Community
It is with great concern for our spirituality that I pen / post this article. For several years now as a pioneer of the return of Yoruba Sacred Science to some areas/regions of the diaspora, I look with disgust upon some of the prevalent practices by devotees of our ancient sacred sciences and methodologies and yearn for a system and/or institution for physical and mundane redress of the discrepancies of moral and ethical action expected of persons of gentle and noble character.
I speak of several matters, issues and principles here. We are adviced in Yoruba Sacred Science Tradition that the goal of the individual is the acquiring of the gentle and noble character. We are led to believe that many of the priests of the various orisa we encounter are required to have this trait of gentle and noble character as part of their make up. We are led to believe that our sacred science custodians are persons who have transcended the need for deceit, fraud, lies, maliciousness and several other ignoble character traits.
However, many episodes of past, recent and continuing, provide example that our custodians are not what we make them out to be.
Many are the accounts related by “New world” devotees, of short-changing in our initiations.
Many are the stories of greed and corruption perpetrated by so called men/women of good character – representatives of orisa, and in some instances, orisa incarnate on earth. How can we address this discrepancy and contradiction? Are we to just sit by and await Eledumare’s judgment and intervention? Or are we to take the counsel of Ifa and know that human beings are the ones to create an environment of love, peace, harmony and justice on the face of the earth. I advocate the latter.
